At Grasshopper Urban Farm, we strive to bring you the best local, organic produce! We offer flower bouquets and fresh eggs. Everything we do is a little different. We find both life and eating can be more exciting when trying new & different experiences.
I am a former chef (pastry was my specialty) and always an avid gardener. I loved serving family and friends fresh, healthy produce from my garden. I pushed the boundaries then too, serving items not everyone found familiar. Rarely did they go away disappointed! We have lost touch with how to prepare so many vegetables due to the limited variety we have at the grocery stores. It was always my dream to feed people from farm to table. For the past three years I have been working towards making this a reality. I was fortunate to go through KState’s Growing Growers program and apprentice at two of the best organic farms in the area.
We bought the farm in August, 2019. It was raw land with no utilities. We have done all the work ourselves with some help from a few friends. The hoop house build started in October, 2019 and was completed January 1, 2020. Next was the deer fence. Most of the cedar posts were harvested from our land. We started tarping and tilling the fields. Next was the planning and installing of the 1200 ft. irrigation system. We are fortunate to have a spring fed pond to draw from for irrigation. It is b tested yearly and approved for irrigation by KState. Future plans include adding a larger laying flock of chickens, incorporating heritage breed hogs and Icelandic sheep. These future plans include offering butchered products for our carnivores. We want to be your favorite “grocery” store!
For us, sharing our knowledge and our farm is important! We will hold classes and gatherings at the farm so you and your family can get to know us better. We are very excited about adding Farm to Table dinners, as well. Check out our Facebook page for event notifications.
All of this is not possible without your support! Buy local and support your local farmer! Our offerings may not be as familiar as your grocery store but I guarantee you will be delighted with your produce. I have techniques and recipes on how to prepare everything coming from the farm. If you have questions, I am always available to help!
Eat well!!
